On offense there are quite a few guys who need to play well if they want to make the 53-man roster. Brent Qvale is probably the most important guy who needs to have a big game. He has struggled mightily in the preseason and the Jets might have to start him at left tackle if Kelvin Beachum is not ready for Week 1.
The Jets will take on the Philadelphia Eagles in their final preseason game on Thursday night. The Jets defeated the defenending Super Bowl champs, 16-10, last preseason.
Also, wide receivers Chad Hansen, Ardarius Stewart and Charles Johnson need to perform as well. As for the tight end position, all of them need to show up because this competition isn’t over and there is no clear favorite. The backup running backs also need to standout to decide who gets the third spot on the depth chart.
The fouth preseason game is where all of the starters typically sit out and the backups show what they can do. So, we will probably see Teddy Bridgewater and newly signed quarterback John Wolford under center for New York.
On the defensensive side of the ball, the position to keep an eye on is outside linebacker. Lorenzo Mauldin, Dylan Donahue and David Bass all have something to prove as they are being beaten out right now by guys like Brandon Copeland and Frankie Luvu.
