Whether it is to try and stick with the Steelers or play elsewhere, this game will showcase second-year quarterback Josh Dobbs. Dobbs has had a very strong preseason and there is still hope he can survive cuts and stick with the team but that is probably just a temporary measure. His future is with another team and this will be his last shot to sell himself on the field.
Let’s face facts. A lot of the guys on the field Thursday night won’t be in the NFL three days later. One thing the coaches are going to look for is clean football. That means no missed assignments, no bad penalties and hopefully no injuries. But it will be inevitable that there is going to be some sloppy plays, missed routes and all the things that go along with third and fourth-string guys on the field.
The Pittsburgh Steelers will wrap up their preseason on Thursday night against the Carolina Panthers. This will be the final opportunity for so many of these young players to impress the coaches in hopes of stealing one of those final remaining spots on the 53-man roster. This game is less about the outcome and more about getting a closer look at some guys we haven’t seen very much of during preseason.
For the offense, it is going to be less about lots of points and yards and more about gauging the effort of these guys. Here’s what we expect from the Steelers’ offense versus the Panthers.
